It turns out that statement comes from the research of Dr. Casey Chosewood, 国家职业安全和健康研究所全体工人健康办公室主任, part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Think about it, it makes sense. Not to denigrate the fine work done in the 但是你多久去看一次初级卫生保健 provider compared to how often you see your leader at work?

The McKinsey Quarterly recently quoted me in an article about wellness in the workplace. One of the points I made 你不能通过锻炼计划来解决健康问题吗 treat people like crap. Until organizations do a better job of letting 他们的人民知道他们受到重视和关心,而推荐全球十大博彩公司排行榜甚至都不知道 move the needle on team member wellbeing.

Most leaders understand their influence on team members’ lives

I talk often about workplace stress and the links between stress and health. Stress often leads to or exacerbates health issues, and what’s one of the leading causes of stress? Work!

The American Institute of Stress 她说:“大量研究表明,工作压力远远不是健康的罪魁祸首 是美国成年人压力的主要来源,而且已经升级 progressively over the past few decades. Increased levels of job stress 通过感觉控制很少,但控制很多来评估 需求已被证明与增加的比率有关 heart attack, hypertension and other disorders.”

Even if that officer is on vacation!

An Attitudes in the American Workplace study uncovered these frightening statistics:

I don’t know too many managers who wake up and say, ‘I want to make life miserable for my people.’ Even so, we treat people at work in ways we’d never treat our family and friends. So the issue may not be 人们需要学习如何去关心,这是人们需要学习的 how to care at work.”

Again, the way you lead impacts the way people live.

We should provide resources to help facilitate healthier 生活,同时培养关怀的环境,让团队成员 opportunities to become their best selves.

If we simply cared about the people whose lives we are 有幸领导他们,每晚送他们回家,感觉自己很有价值,推荐全球十大博彩公司排行榜 could reduce health care costs. When 88 percent of people do not feel they’re part of an organization that cares about them, we are contributing to the healthcare crisis. And then we go to the byproduct to solve it, which is pills and medications and hospital visits.

It's not that wellness programs aren’t good things. At Barry-Wehmiller,推荐全球十大博彩公司排行榜见证了伟大的事情发生在推荐全球十大博彩公司排行榜的 people because of our wellness initiatives. But we’re often not addressing the root of problem. As Gallup said in their most recent State of the American Workplace report, “如果员工没有优秀的管理者,如果他们不知道什么是 对他们的期望,或者如果他们的职位与他们的才能不匹配, 那么再多的福利也不会是万灵药.”

Here’s a profound quote from a Harvard Business Review article on this very subject. “Research suggests that the most powerful way 领导者可以改善员工的幸福感,而不是通过计划和 initiatives but through day-to-day actions. For example, data from a 卡罗林斯卡学院的安娜·尼伯格进行的一项大型研究表明 having a harsh boss is linked to heart problems in employees.

Leaders set the tone for their organization, and their behavior

My good friend and co-author Raj Sisodia He recently spoke in St. Louis at an event sponsored by our Chapman & Co. Leadership Institute which we shared on our Everybody Matters Podcast.

“如果领导者被困在某种程度的意识中,那么 organization can’t move beyond that,” Raj said. “If the leader is rooted in fear and insecurity, the organization will reflect that. You can 有一个令人不快的领导人,创造了每个人都想要的条件 becomes, in a way, an agent of hurting. Or you can have a leader who’s 来自一个充满爱、关怀、治愈和所有人的地方 becomes an extension of that. So again, the responsibility of 有意识地创造这种文化是非凡的——无论是推荐全球十大博彩公司排行榜的 better angels or inner demons prevail as human beings.

I responded, “Are you kidding me? Did you just ask me what kind of financial return I get for caring?” And he said, “At my company, we are extremely numeric.” And I said, “That’s pitiful.” Then he told 在他的公司里,只有30%的人会推荐 job there to a friend or family member. No kidding.

What is the ROI for caring? It’s having teammates that are Because they feel fulfilled by the time they’re spending away 相反,从他们的家庭和家人那里,他们受到了鼓舞和激励 of stressed. And when they go home to their loved ones, they share that 快乐和满足,而不是压力和痛苦的感觉 unappreciated and insignificant.

But that pales in comparison to creating a better world both inside and outside your company walls.
